Nurses

Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.

Treatment Room Nurses

The treatment room nurse is available Monday to Friday 09:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 – 17:00. We operate an appointment system for the treatment room. You can book an appointment slot in advance for a particular day. The treatment room nurse provides a comprehensive service dealing with wounds and dressings, blood and urine tests, immunisation, ear syringing and blood pressure checks as well as advice on minor ailments.

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

Practice Management

The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

Reception

Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They are here to help you, and when you phone the Medical Centre they may ask you a few questions. They have been trained to make these enquires so that they can help you in the most appropriate way. The reception team prides itself on being courteous and will do their very best to meet your reasonable requests and assist you wherever possible. They are often working under a great deal of pressure, so please allow for and respect this.

Pharmacists

Our GP Pharmacists works along side Doctors and Nurses to help respond to acute medication requests, carry out repeat prescription review, provide a point of contact for medication-related queries. GP Pharmacists will carry out reviews of Nursing homes medication, and Audit medication use with the patients best interests at heart.

Mrs Mairead Quinn

Community Midwives

Midwives have been specially trained to care for mothers and babies throughout normal pregnancy, labour and birth. On hearing your good news the GP will refer you to the hospital of your choice, who then instigate the first appointment with your midwife. The midwives work in the local hospital but come to the Medical Centre every Tuesday afternoon to the Antenatal Clinic.

Community Nurses

District nurses are attached to our practice in Moneymore. The most important part of their work is attending our patients in their homes to provide treatment and giving advice to carers. She is able to prescribe a limited number of drugs and dressings.

Health Visitors

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.
